Watch the News!

news
I don’t know about you guys, but recently, I’ve been hearing people freak out about all kinds of things. H1N1 and 2012 are the main ones, but smaller issues seem to be endless. A quick walk down the halls or through the cafeteria of my high school and you’ll hear kids our age discussing the “end of the world” or how swine flu will kill us all. When I walk by these people, I can’t help but shake my head and feel a little disappointed. Where are they getting their information? Rumors? Chain texts? Probably anywhere than the one source they should trust: an unbiased news channel.

Everyday when I get home from school, I watch the news for at least twenty minutes. That’s all it takes to turn you into a smart, savvy, well-informed teen. Of course, if something you see confuses you or interests you, feel free to keep on watching. I know, I know. It seems boring and lame. But what’s really lame is not knowing what you’re talking about. Those twenty minutes a day or even every other day could totally change your perspective and make you look like a genius in any class that deals with world affairs. On top of all that, you’ll be able to turn other people on to getting the right information about anything that concerns you.

Ask any teacher and they’ll tell you how important it is to be well-informed about the world as a whole. Trust me, guys, it’s not as nerdy as it’ll feel when you first start plopping down on the couch to watch the news. I recommend BBC (which has a website you can reach) or the Huffington Post (also a website).

Think about it. We’re the future, and we’ve got to start acting like it. Empower yourself, ladies! If we all work together to be more well-informed and unbiased, we just might save the world
